One day we discovered we had a visitor just under our house's eaves. It was a possum! Being a nocturnal animal, it left after it got dark. It obviously had other homes because it only showed up every few days.
After visiting us over a period of more than a month, they suddenly stopped coming. We missed them!
Kay tempted it with a slice of apple, known to be popular with possums. |
Cautiously, the possum inspected it and then quickly devoured it. |
Then we discovered it had something in its pouch - a cub! |
The cub gradually got bigger. |
They shared a love for apples. |
The cub also became more demanding once it had acquired a taste for the fruit. |
They both looked so cute. Hope they will return soon KM :)
ReplyDeleteGreat close-ups! Totally worth the noise in your ceiling.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting photos of a possum up close, It looks like a mini kangaroo. Didn't know it's a marsupial.
ReplyDeleteFor those not familiar with the Aussie animal, possums, like kangeroos, koala and platypus, are marsupials. So the females have a pouch to carry their young.
DeleteDid not know they like apples so much. What other fruits are in their diet? Good that they only take sheltor in the eaves.

ReplyDeleteThey are considered pests by many gardeners. They regularly chew up the young leaves of our pistachio tree, and the neighbours can't grow tomatoes, parsley and other vegetables fast enough. Even our Japanese maple leaves are cleaned out.
ReplyDeleteVery cute pics of the mom & club!
